Rainbow Resistance? The Changing Activity of the Hungarian LGBT Movement Scene, with Special Respect on the Period from 2010 Onward

The aim of this study is to present the transformation of the political role of the LGBT movement in the last few years in Hungary, in particular in the context of the debate generated by the constitutional changes after the 2010 elections and the adoption of the new Fundamental Law. The scene, influenced by the new constitution forced the LGBT organizations to became the natural ally of the protest movements criticize the new constitutional rules from a human rights perspective. Compared to the previous years the political communication of the LGBT movement became more and more critic against the specific new political and legal decisions, and goes beyond the aspects of identity and equality based politics. The Budapest Pride festival, first time in its history sent a political message identified the movement with democracy, rule of law, constitutionalism, also with opposition protest movements and civil disobedience actions. I believe that after 2010, by carrying the legacy of post-modern social movements, a constantly evolving new protest culture strengthened in Hungary, with the active participation and support of the Hungarian LGBT movement.
