The Disappearing Labour Society

In his essay, written in the wake of the debate initiated by the publications of Claus Offe, Dahrendorf recounts how labour relations dominate contemporary capitalist societies and our cultural traditions. He then analyses the decline of “Labour Society” in light of the rising unemployment rate and the inability of both the capitalist economy and the welfare state to deal with the ensuing social crisis.
