Reflections on the Commentary of József Rácz
Reflections on the Commentary of József Rácz
In his commentary on our recent study published in Replika, one of the peer-reviewers, the psychiatrist József Rácz explains his heavy concerns about the very publication of our study in the journal. Including excerpts from our editor’s reply, we clarify our epistemological standpoint and emphasizing the importance and relevance of social scientific analysis. Thereafter we summarize the content of the current WHO guidance (2021) concerning psychopharmacological interventions in general and specifically on SSRI antidepressants which supports the claims of our criticized paper. Hereon we also raise some concerns on (another type of psychopharmacological medication) benzodiazepines whose usage is on the rise among the local population. Unanimously with the WHO guidance we argue that the addictive features of these medications are something that should be taken seriously before and during the prescription just like the principle of informed consent and if patients willing to find a solution for safely quitting these procedures the support and professional help for this action should be provided.
