Commentary on Ágnes Básthy and Zoltán Lengyel’s Pharmacological Biopolitics
This commentary examines the claims made in the article ‘Pharmacological Biopolitics’ by Ágnes Básthy and Zoltán Lengyel (Replika 130), in particular their views on the efficacy of antidepressants, especially the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and antipsychotics. The authors’ arguments are examined in light of current scientific evidence, including the meta-analysis by Cipriani et al. (2018), which supports the efficacy of antidepressants. The commentary highlights the importance of incorporating current research and maintaining rigorous scientific standards in the evaluation of pharmacological treatments. It would be beneficial to consider both historical and contemporary studies in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the topic.
