In Praise of Sociology
In Praise of Sociology
Pierre Bourdieu beszéde a CNRS aranyérmének átvételekor
“In Praise of Sociology” is the address delivered by Bourdieu in December 1993 at the ceremony where he received the Gold Medal of the CNRS, France’s highest scientific award (published here for the first time in a dozen languages and countries simultaneously, edited by Loic Wacquant). As the first sociologist thus honored, Bourdieu used this occasion to clarify the vocation of the sociology to the highest authorities of science, politics, and journalism of the country and to call for its development as a “public service.”
