Commentary on the Evolutionary Approach of Social Sciences
Commentary on the Evolutionary Approach of Social Sciences
Bence Nánay’s commentary on the previous issue of Replika endeavours to give a general framework for the different perspectives represented by the four articles of that issue. A general typology is outlined whereby evolutionary explanations relevant to the social sciences are categorised on the basis of their domain as well as on the kind of evolutionary mechanism they apply. The author includes the three basic paradigms of evolutionary processes, namely, biological, cultural and mental evolution in one conceptual framework. Finally, the core assumptions about the nature of evolutionary processes implicit in the four articles are analysed with reference to this general framework.
