Disbelieving Documentary: Rouch Viewed through the Binoculars of Marker and Ruiz

In this essay Ian Christie compares Jean Rouch, Chris Marker and Raul Ruiz who all are dominant authors of documentary filmmaking. What is common in their views is the skepticism toward „recording reality” and the way they expressed their thoughts in theory and practice. They all tried to find new formal devices on the border of fiction and documentary but the similarities and differences are still subjects of inspirative examinations.
